LeToya Luckett Joins the Girls Inspire Summit Panel in Washington, DC

The Society For Girls, Inc held its first Girls Inspire Summit on September 8th at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, DC. Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson opened the program via video, encouraging girls to use their voice for positive change. Honored panelists included R&B artist, LeToya Luckett, SVP of PR at TV One, Monica Neal, Danella Sealock, traffic reporter of NBC 4 Washington, 93.9 WKYS’(DC) Angie Ange, and host Janaye Ingram, DC Bureau Chief of the National Action Network.

Each panelist shared their who inspires them, thoughts on negative images in the media, the pressure of being a role model, personal self-esteem issues, the ugly side of the entertainment industry and much more.

Logo 4 Life founder, Karen Quarles began the vision board presentation by allowing attendees to identify all the things that would stop them from reaching their goals. Together they wrote them down and then disposed of the paper, instilling in them that nothing can get in the way of diligently reaching their goals and pursuing their dreams. To keep the energy going, DJ Ladee Elle spun the attendee’s favorite records as they created their vision boards.

The Girls Inspire Summit was successful in raising awareness to the misrepresentation of young girls and women in the media. All panelists and activities spoke to the overall theme of teaching young girls to be true to themselves, take a more critical view of the images the media portrays, and encouraged them to diligently pursue their dreams.

Shantelle Dockett, founder of The Society for Girls, Inc. commented, “We are so grateful to our wonderful panelists and hosts as well as to all of the girls who came out to the 2012 Girls Inspire Summit. We hope all attendees were truly inspired.”
