Get ready to “whip your hair” like Willow Smith and R&B artist and actress, LeToya Luckett with Luster Pink’s Smooth Touch hair care line. The historical Chicago-based company, recently named Luckett as the new spokesperson for their brand, which offers a variety of styling products for younger, style-conscious women who can achieve both modern and versatile hair styles without running to their local hair salons.
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend Luckett’s meet-and-greet on May 21 at Walmart in Evergreen Park, but I did have the pleasure of chatting with the Houston beauty via telephone. She emphasized the importance of proper hair care for women of color and her plans for her new, ultra-glam role. “As Luster’s spokesperson, it’s my job to bring more awareness to women of color about proper hair care and health, said Luckett. Everything in the beauty industry is changing, and I’m just happy that there is something for ‘US,’ and the brand is doing a great job of keeping up.”
That’s putting it mildly. The Luster hair care line has served the beauty needs of the African-American community for more than 50 years, ranging with products that are specifically designed for a variety of hair types and textures. It’s no wonder the association of “superstar status” is still affiliated with the household brand. Adding mega-star power like Luckett, well, that’s just icing on the cake.
Speaking of “superstar status,” consumers can achieve celebrity-like hair styles by using some of LeToya’s favorite Luster products, including A Reason to Gloss Shine Polish and her “absolute favorite,” Smooth Touch Conditioning Shampoo and Conditioner. “I absolutely love that the products aren’t greasy and won’t weigh your hair down. After I shampoo and condition my hair, I usually flatiron it, but I try not to use heat too often.” What’s her secret weapon, you ask? “I usually pin curl my hair in the evening, that way I’m set for the next day” (which may include running away from the paparazzi or posing with enthused fans).
To add to the star’s long list of projects, the former Destiny’s Child member is back in the studio recording her third solo album. “I’m so excited and happy to be back in the studio, Luckett sighs. You know when you take a break and then you go back…it just feels at home.” I’m sure the Luster family share the same opinions about the ever-changing world of beauty; “whipping your hair” is half the battle, choosing the right products are essential.
